What to send

Get a quote you can rely on. It starts with the details.

Handyman jobs are priced by the provider from what you describe, so the clearer the request, the closer the quote is to the final bill. Four things make the difference:

  1. 1

    What needs doing

One job per line: “Re-hang the bathroom door that sticks”, “Assemble 2 flat-pack wardrobes”, “Replace the kitchen tap washer”.

  2. 2

    Photos or a short video

Of each job, from far enough back to show the space and close enough to show the problem.

  3. 3

    Materials

Say whether you have them or the provider should supply them. If they supply them, they are listed separately in the quote.

  4. 4

    Access and timing

Keys, stairs, ceiling height, parking, and when the property is free.

Need someone to look first?

Some providers offer an in-person visit before quoting. Your first visit for a job is free (one free visit per postcode every 7 days); a second provider’s visit fee is shown before you book it and refunded if they cancel. A quote given after a visit stays valid for up to 3 months.

The three handyman headaches, fixed

A real quote. A real date. Your money held until it’s done.

“They never turned up.”

You book through the platform for a date. If the provider cancels, you never pay a cancellation fee: choose another provider, whose price you see first, or take a full refund.

“The quote was vague and the bill wasn’t.”

Quotes on Cleanifiq show labour and materials separately. Anything outside the quote is agreed in the app before it is done, and the messages are kept as the record if there is ever a disagreement.

“I paid for materials that never came.”

When a job needs materials you pay for them up front, and we hold that money until they are delivered to the property and you confirm; you have 2 days to check. Jobs over £1,500 can be paid in stages: materials and the first phase first, then each phase as you sign it off.

Gas or electrics?

Those aren’t handyman jobs. Gas appliances and boilers need a Gas Safe registered engineer, and new circuits or rewiring need a qualified electrician. Ask to see the registration in the messages before anyone starts; no platform check replaces your own.

Honest limit: materials carry the manufacturer’s warranty, not the provider’s, unless the provider chose materials that weren’t suitable for the job.

Landlords and letting agents in Edinburgh

Put cleaning and repairs on one account: book the handyman for the snag list and the end of tenancy clean for the same week. Business accounts are invoiced after each job on 30-day terms. You can cancel a booking on the day for free until the provider has arrived, picked up keys or is on their way; within 60 minutes of a notified arrival time the minimum call-out fee applies.

See Cleanifiq for landlords and for letting agencies, or call the business team on 0141 846 7777.

How much does a handyman cost in Edinburgh?

Every job is quoted by the provider, with labour and materials shown separately. Providers set a minimum call-out, so bundling small jobs into one visit usually costs less than booking them one at a time. There is no booking fee on top: the quote you accept is what you pay.

Typical totals from real Cleanifiq jobs in Edinburgh

£170.00

the middle job; one in ten at £100.00 or less, one in ten over £800.00 (41 accepted quotes, last 12 months)

A sense of range, not a quote: the smallest tenth of accepted Edinburgh handyman jobs came to £100.00 or less and the largest tenth to more than £800.00. Your price depends entirely on the job you describe.

What affects the price

  • How long the work takes, and whether it needs two people
  • Materials, if the provider supplies them
  • Access: stairs, ceiling height, parking
  • How many jobs you bundle into one visit
  • How clearly the job is described (photos help)

Providers on Cleanifiq set their own prices, so quotes for the same job can differ. Compare what each one includes (materials, the number of visits, who supplies what) as well as the total, and read their reviews from booked jobs.

How it works

Three steps. Then the job’s done.

  1. 01

    Describe the job

What needs doing, photos or a short video, whether you have the materials, and when the property is free.

  2. 02

    Compare quotes

Providers covering your postcode quote with labour and materials shown separately. Some offer a visit first; your first visit for a job is free.

  3. 03

    Book and pay through Cleanifiq

Your payment and any materials money are held. The provider is paid only after the work is done.

The protection that comes with every booking

Your payment is held

You choose at checkout: pay a deposit (20% of the job, or the provider’s minimum call-out fee if that’s higher) or pay in full. If you pay a deposit, the balance is due by 7:30am on the day of the job; if it isn’t paid by then, the booking counts as cancelled. Your money goes to Cleanifiq, not the provider, and is released to them only after they’ve completed the job on the platform. There is no booking fee on top: the price you’re shown is the price you pay.

Something not right?

Tell us within 48 hours of the job, with photos or a short video of what isn’t right. Your provider comes back to put it right at no cost to you, and we hold their payment until it’s settled. If they can’t or won’t, you choose: the value of the unfinished items back as a refund or Cleanifiq credit, a new, smaller job for just those items with another provider (you see the price before confirming), or both.

If your provider cancels

If your provider cancels, you never pay a cancellation fee. You choose a replacement provider (you see their price first) or a full refund. If you rebook the same service for the same date, any same-day or next-day surcharge on the replacement is covered.

Pay through Cleanifiq

Always pay through Cleanifiq, including for anything added on the day. Work paid for privately falls outside our guarantee, our insurance cover and our dispute resolution.

Local to Edinburgh

Handyman jobs in Edinburgh: what’s worth knowing

Edinburgh is Cleanifiq’s second-busiest city for handyman work, and its older housing shapes a lot of the jobs.

Listed buildings and conservation areas

Much of central Edinburgh is in a conservation area and many buildings are listed. Changing windows, doors or anything on the outside can need consent from the City of Edinburgh Council; like-for-like repairs often don’t, but check before replacing anything.

High ceilings, old walls

Tall rooms and lath-and-plaster walls change how shelves, curtain poles and TVs are fixed. Say what the wall is made of, if you know, and send a photo, so the quote includes the right fixings and ladder.

Between tenancies

Book the snag list and the end of tenancy clean for the same week. Both sit on the same account, and 18 providers quoted for end of tenancy cleans in Edinburgh in the six months to October 2026.

FAQ

Handyman services in Edinburgh: your questions

Across all services in Edinburgh, half of all requests got their first quote within about 5 minutes. Handyman jobs can take longer, because providers read the description and look at the photos before pricing, so a clear list and good photos help.
Across 41 accepted handyman quotes in Edinburgh in the 12 months to October 2026, the middle job came to £170.00, with one in ten at £100.00 or less and one in ten above £800.00. The quote for your job, with labour and materials shown separately, is the figure that counts.
Either of you. If the job needs materials, the provider lists them separately in their quote. You pay for them up front, and we hold that money until they’re delivered to the property and you confirm; you have 2 days to check. Jobs over £1,500 can be paid in stages.
Yes. Jobs over £1,500 can be split into phases: materials and the first phase first, then each phase after you confirm the one before.
Some providers offer an in-person visit before quoting. Your first visit for a job is free (one free visit per postcode every 7 days); a second provider’s visit fee is shown before you book it and refunded if they cancel. A quote given after a visit stays valid for up to 3 months.
Before a provider can take bookings we check photo ID, proof of address and public liability insurance, plus a criminal record check (Basic Disclosure Scotland or equivalent) and right to work where it applies. For companies we check a director’s ID, the business address, public liability insurance and Companies House status. Documents with expiry dates are re-checked when they expire, and a new provider’s first three jobs are covered by Cleanifiq’s insurance while their own cover is verified. Every review on a provider’s profile comes from a booked, paid job. No check is perfect, so read the reviews and pick someone with a track record for your type of job.
No. Gas appliances and boilers need a Gas Safe registered engineer, and new circuits or rewiring need a qualified electrician. Ask to see the registration before anyone starts that kind of work.
Tell us within 48 hours, with photos of what isn’t right. The provider comes back to fix it at no cost while we hold their payment; if they can’t, you choose a refund or credit for the unfinished part, a new provider for just that part, or both.
Please don’t. Work paid for outside Cleanifiq, including extras agreed on the day, falls outside our guarantee, our insurance cover and our dispute resolution.
Yes, you can cancel your booking, but cancellation fees may apply depending on timing. More than 2 weeks before: full refund with no deductions. Between 2 weeks and 2 days before: a payment processing fee of 1.69%–5% (depending on payment method) is retained and the rest is refunded. Less than 2 days before (or failing to pay by 7:30 AM on cleaning day): your deposit is retained as a slot reservation fee. After the provider starts: you owe the minimum callout fee or work completed, whichever is greater. Whenever money comes back to you, you can take it as Cleanifiq credit instead of a refund, sometimes with a bonus on top. This policy keeps things fair for both customers and Edinburgh providers.
