Two methods, one booking

Steam or shampoo? You choose when you book.

Cleanifiq offers both as separate options in the same booking, and providers list which ones they do. Each method also has its own page with the details.

Steam cleaning (hot-water extraction)

A machine sprays hot water mixed with a cleaning solution into the pile and extracts it straight back out, taking loosened dirt with it. It’s what most people mean by “carpet cleaning”, and the usual choice for fabric sofas and mattresses.

  • Pick “Steam Cleaning” when the booking asks for the method
  • Providers set their own rate for steam
  • Leave time for the carpet to dry afterwards

Carpet shampooing

A cleaning solution is worked into the pile with a machine brush to loosen ground-in dirt, and the residue is then extracted or hoovered away. Some providers prefer it for heavily trodden carpet.

  • Pick “Shampoo” when the booking asks for the method
  • Priced separately from steam cleaning
  • Ask your provider how long it needs to dry

Not sure which? Choose either and describe the carpet and the stains. If your provider thinks the other method suits it better, they’ll say so before they start, and nothing changes on your bill without your OK.

Stains, honestly

We’ll tell you what’s coming out. Before you pay for it.

Carpet cleaning is the job where expectations and results drift apart most often. A wine stain from last night and a mark that has been walked in for three years are different problems, and nobody can honestly promise both will vanish.

So here is how it works on Cleanifiq. You describe the condition of each area using four levels:

  • Refreshing only

No stains, just tired, flattened pile.

    A carpeted room: 30 min

  • Couple of stains

A thorough clean plus treatment of the marks you describe.

    A carpeted room: 40 min

  • Heavily stained

A deep clean for heavy or widespread staining.

    A carpeted room: 60 min

  • Extremely dirty

Maximum effort, for carpets that haven’t been cleaned in years.

    A carpeted room: 75 min

You set the condition, item by item

Each room, hall, staircase, sofa and mattress gets its own condition, so a spotless spare room isn’t priced like the hallway that takes all the traffic. Time follows condition, and the price follows the time.

Stain removal is attempted, not promised

Cleanifiq’s service standard says it plainly: providers make every professional effort, and complete stain removal can’t be guaranteed. Old stains, bleach marks and dye transfer often won’t shift, because the fibre itself has changed colour. A good provider tells you that when they see the carpet, not after they’ve finished.

Anything extra is your call

Moving heavy furniture isn’t part of the job, and very heavy pet hair takes longer. If your provider finds more than you described, they send a priced request in the app and you decide whether it’s done.

Room times are the platform’s defaults; each provider’s own rate turns them into a price. We don’t make health claims about carpet cleaning, so you won’t see “kills 99.9%” here. Biohazards, pest infestations and flood damage are specialist decontamination work, quoted separately.

See the price per room and item before anyone arrives.

What can be extra on the day

Quoted upfront. You only pay if you say yes.

The price you accept covers what you described. If your provider finds more on the day, such as a sofa that wasn’t on the booking or stains under a rug that has been moved, they quote it before doing it.

If your provider finds more than you described, they send an additional payment request through the platform with a description and a price. You accept or decline it, and it expires after 1 hour. Decline it and they do what you booked, to the standard you booked. If something you selected isn’t there, you aren’t charged for it.

  • Moving lighter furniture, on inspection
  • Very heavy pet hair
  • Extra treatment for stains you didn’t mention
  • Hallways longer than 5 m
  • Cushions, chairs or items not on the booking

No surprises on the receipt.

How much does carpet cleaning cost in Edinburgh?

Every item has a set time for each condition level. Your provider’s own hourly rate turns that time into a fixed price before you book, and providers set separate rates for steam and shampoo. Most also set a minimum call-out, so a single small item usually costs the minimum.

Default times at “Couple of stains”

  • Carpeted room40 min
  • Hallway (up to 5 m)40 min
  • Stairs3 min per step
  • Sofa20 min
  • Armchair15 min
  • Mattress40 min
  • Loose cushion3 min each

Example: three rooms, a hall and 13 stairs is about 3 hours 20 minutes of work.

No typical Edinburgh price yet

Edinburgh doesn’t have enough standalone carpet bookings yet for us to publish a typical price without guessing. The times in the table, multiplied by your provider’s rate, are exactly how your quote is built.

What affects the price

  • The condition you choose for each item
  • How many stairs there are and how long the hall is
  • The method: steam and shampoo are priced separately
  • Pet hair and heavy soiling
  • Booking carpets with a house or end of tenancy clean: one visit, one call-out

Why quotes differ between providers

Providers on Cleanifiq set their own rates, so two quotes for the same carpets can differ. The platform turns each rate into a fixed price for your exact job, which means you compare like with like and choose on price, reviews and the date that suits you. The price you accept is the price you pay.

How it works

Three steps. Then clean carpets.

  1. 01

    Describe the carpets

Rooms, halls, stairs, sofas and mattresses, each with its condition, plus steam or shampoo. It takes a couple of minutes and there’s no card to enter.

  2. 02

    Compare fixed prices

Local providers quote from those times and their own rates. You see their reviews and available dates side by side, and choose.

  3. 03

    Book and pay through Cleanifiq

Pay a deposit or in full. Your provider is paid only after the job is done, and anything extra needs your OK first.

The protection that comes with every booking

Your payment is held

You choose at checkout: pay a deposit (20% of the job, or the provider’s minimum call-out fee if that’s higher) or pay in full. If you pay a deposit, the balance is due by 7:30am on the day of the job; if it isn’t paid by then, the booking counts as cancelled. Your money goes to Cleanifiq, not the provider, and is released to them only after they’ve completed the job on the platform. There is no booking fee on top: the price you’re shown is the price you pay.

Something not right?

Tell us within 48 hours of the job, with photos or a short video of what isn’t right. Your provider comes back to put it right at no cost to you, and we hold their payment until it’s settled. If they can’t or won’t, you choose: the value of the unfinished items back as a refund or Cleanifiq credit, a new, smaller job for just those items with another provider (you see the price before confirming), or both.

If your provider cancels

If your provider cancels, you never pay a cancellation fee. You choose a replacement provider (you see their price first) or a full refund. If you rebook the same service for the same date, any same-day or next-day surcharge on the replacement is covered.

Pay through Cleanifiq

Always pay through Cleanifiq, including for anything added on the day. Work paid for privately falls outside our guarantee, our insurance cover and our dispute resolution.

Carpet cleaning in Edinburgh: the honest picture

Edinburgh has a steady group of providers for carpet shampooing and a much thinner one for steam cleaning. Here is what that means when you book.

Shampoo has more providers than steam

If you are set on steam you may see a single quote. If the date matters more to you than the method, choosing shampoo gives you more prices to compare.

Furnished flat? Put the sofa and the mattress on the same booking

In a furnished let, the sofa, the armchairs and the mattresses are often listed on the check-out inventory alongside the carpets. Each one is priced as an item, so a single visit can cover everything and you get one receipt to show the letting agent.

Say what the carpet is made of

Older Edinburgh flats often have wool or wool-mix carpets, which some providers treat differently from synthetics. Mention the fibre, if you know it, and the stains when you book; your provider will tell you before starting if they would recommend the other method.

FAQ

Carpet cleaning in Edinburgh: your questions

Steam cleaning (hot-water extraction) is the usual choice for most carpets, fabric sofas and mattresses; shampooing works a solution into the pile with a brush and some providers prefer it for heavily trodden carpet. If you are unsure, pick either and describe the carpet and the stains: your provider will tell you before starting if the other method suits it better.
Yes, but there is less choice than for shampooing: one provider quoted for steam cleaning in Edinburgh in the six months to October 2026, against six for shampooing. Request steam if you prefer it; if no quote suits your date, request shampooing instead and compare again.
Every stain you describe gets treated, but complete removal can’t be guaranteed, especially for old marks, bleach spots and dye transfer, where the fibre itself has changed. Your provider will tell you what to expect once they see the carpet.
It depends on the method, the fibre, the weather and how well the room is ventilated, so we don’t quote a fixed time. Your provider will advise on the day; heating on and a window open speed it up.
Moving heavy furniture isn’t included, so clear small items and anything you want cleaned underneath before the provider arrives. They can price moving lighter pieces as an extra, and only with your OK.
Yes. The house and end of tenancy bookings have a carpet step where you choose shampooing or steam cleaning, so one provider handles everything in one visit. An end of tenancy clean already includes a pre-clean hoover; the steam or shampoo is the add-on.
Not at all, but say so when you book. Very heavy pet hair can be an extra, and you can ask for pet-friendly products.
Tell us within 48 hours, with photos. If a stain you described wasn’t treated or an area was missed, your provider comes back to put it right at no cost, and we hold their payment until it’s settled. A stain that was treated but can’t come out isn’t a missed job, which is why providers flag those before they start.
Before a provider can take bookings we check photo ID, proof of address and public liability insurance, plus a criminal record check (Basic Disclosure Scotland or equivalent) and right to work where it applies. For companies we check a director’s ID, the business address, public liability insurance and Companies House status. Documents with expiry dates are re-checked when they expire, and a new provider’s first three jobs are covered by Cleanifiq’s insurance while their own cover is verified. Every review on a provider’s profile comes from a booked, paid job. No check is perfect, so read the reviews and pick someone with a track record for your type of job.
Yes, you can cancel your booking, but cancellation fees may apply depending on timing. More than 2 weeks before: full refund with no deductions. Between 2 weeks and 2 days before: a payment processing fee of 1.69%–5% (depending on payment method) is retained and the rest is refunded. Less than 2 days before (or failing to pay by 7:30 AM on cleaning day): your deposit is retained as a slot reservation fee. After the provider starts: you owe the minimum callout fee or work completed, whichever is greater. Whenever money comes back to you, you can take it as Cleanifiq credit instead of a refund, sometimes with a bonus on top. This policy keeps things fair for both customers and Edinburgh providers.
